CREAFTalk with Emilie Ellis - How are butterflies and moths responding to climate change and environmental disturbance?

In this talk, Emilie will present her recent and ongoing research into how climate warming has reorganised moth and butterfly communities over the past three decades in Finland. She will explore the challenge of connecting responses within individual species to changes across whole communities, before introducing new collaborative research with Dr Yolanda Melero at CREAF that applies this approach of linking responses across biological scales to understand how climate and urbanisation are reshaping butterfly communities. 

Who is Emilie Ellis?

Emilie Ellis is an Academy Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki and a community ecologist researching how ecological communities are being reorganised by climate change and other human pressures. Her research combines long-term monitoring, species traits and large-scale ecological datasets to examine not only how communities are changing, but why. Through a newly funded project, she is linking responses from individual butterflies to population persistence and community change across Europe.
