Mercedes Ibáñez Raffaele
I hold a PhD in Forest and Natural Environment Management from the University of Lleida (UdL), with a previous background in Environmental Sciences and a Master's degree in Terrestrial Ecology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). I currently work in the PROTECSOL research group at CREAF, where I participate in various projects focused on the restoration of degraded soils, the study of carbon dynamics, and improving soil health through sustainable management practices.
My research focuses on how to improve soil quality and functionality, particularly in areas affected by different types of degradation. A key aspect of my work is understanding how soils can recover their function and carbon storage capacity through the incorporation of organic amendments. Restoring soils and ecosystems is essential for ensuring the delivery of ecosystem services and contributing to climate change mitigation.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in nature, especially hiking in the mountains. I also practice yoga and love traveling — especially to tropical forests whenever possible.
