David Martí Pino
I am a Computer Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and I specialize in the development of computer tools for the management and integration of biodiversity data, through the implementation of databases, data sharing standards, websites and mobile applications.
I am part of the team of the Observatory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of Catalonia, where I provide IT support to various projects in the area of biodiversity monitoring and to the development and maintenance of its website. I am also part of the Technical Office of the European Bird Census Council, where I provide technological support to the main European bird monitoring projects, including the EuroBirdPortal, the Pan- European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme (PECBMS) and the European Breeding Bird Atlas (EBBA).
Throughout my professional career I have participated in research and transfer projects in collaboration with administrations at Catalan and European level, with special emphasis on the development of solutions based on free software. My work has been aimed at strengthening the link between the communities that produce biodiversity data and their needs, and the people and institutions that manage, integrate or use them for research, conservation and decision-making. In the last decade I have been closely linked to the ornithological community through the Catalan Institute of Ornithology and other taxonomic groups, participating in the development of databases and tools for data collection in the field.
