Sara Fraixedas Núñez
I have a degree in Environmental Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where I also did my master's degree in Environmental Studies. In 2017 I obtained my PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Helsinki.
After a postdoctoral period in France and Finland, I am currently a researcher in the GOBi group of CREAF and I work on projects in the monitoring area of the Observatory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of Catalonia . My research focuses on the analysis of biodiversity monitoring data, the modeling of population trends and the methodological development of ecological indicators, with the aim of building robust tools that allow the evaluation of ecological changes and support decision-making in conservation. In this context, I work on the generation and interpretation of indicators of the state of biodiversity at the Catalan scale, with special emphasis on the Living Planet Index of Catalonia (LPI-Cat), which integrates information from various biological groups.
I also participate in European research and conservation projects that combine standardized monitoring data and citizen science to improve the understanding of biodiversity changes and strengthen their incorporation into the assessment and design of environmental policies. I maintain a close collaboration with the European Bird Census Council and other international biodiversity monitoring initiatives, contributing to the development of comparable indicators and analytical tools at a European scale.
In addition, I am an associate researcher at the Catalan Institute of Ornithology and editor of the Catalan Journal of Ornithology.
