Pau Colom Montojo
My name is Pau Colom and I am an ecologist and postdoctoral researcher interested in understanding how insects respond to environmental change. My research has mainly focused on using butterflies as a model system to analyse the effects of global change on biodiversity, from population dynamics to community structure.
I am currently conducting my research under a Severo Ochoa postdoctoral contract (MSCA-PF Seal of Excellence) and lead the phenoIMPACT project, which investigates the mechanisms underlying variation in population phenological responses to climate change and their links to population trends and genetic diversity. The project combines long-term monitoring data with environmental and demographic information to identify vulnerable populations and those with greater adaptive capacity. This research is carried out in collaboration with researchers from the University of Helsinki, Stockholm University and Trent University (Canada).
A key component of my work relies on citizen science data, species trait analyses and the study of ecological interaction networks, with the aim of generating knowledge relevant for biodiversity conservation and for informing public policies and environmental management strategies. In this context, I collaborate with the Catalan Butterfly Monitoring Scheme and support its coordination in the Balearic Islands, contributing to the monitoring of butterflies as bioindicators of ecosystem health.
On a personal note, I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking in the mountains and travelling whenever possible.
