Joan Oró grants to hire research staff in training (FI 2023)

Grants to public and private universities in the Catalan university system, research centres, hospital foundations and Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) for the recruitment of pre-doctoral research staff in training.
Aimed at people who are working on their doctorate at a university in the Catalan university system.

Come to CREAF to catch the science bug!

Do you want to play a leading role in the new generation of ecologists? The 2nd Summer Fellowship Programme provides scholarships to 4 talented university students, to work for 2 months side by side with CREAF researchers and develop their Master’s Thesis. A turning point in your career, as we want to inspire you as future scientists in ecology.

Who is the Programme for?

The Summer Fellowship is addressed to talented university students of any nationality that will be enrolled in the 2022-2023 edition of the Master’s in Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management and want to conduct their Master’s thesis (TFM) under the supervision of a CREAF researcher.

When it will be running?

During the summer 2023, the participants will have the opportunity to work with CREAF researchers and develop their TFM.

What does the fellowship include?

A daily subsistence allowance of 25 €. Students awarded will receive 1500 € for a stay of 2 months.

What academic requirements must I meet?

The 4 selected candidates will choose (following the order resulting from the selection process) the research project they will join during their two-month stay among those proposed by CREAF researchers.

What does the fellowship consist of?

Get involved in our day-to-day work and dedicate your Master's Thesis to one of our research areas. You will work with our researchers who will supervise your thesis. In October 2022, the research projects offered by CREAF researchers will be published to allow enough time to find one that suits your interests. Although 2022-2023 research projects may change, you can have a look at last edition Master thesis projects proposals.  

The 4 selected candidates will choose (following the order resulting from the selection process) the research project they will join during their two-month stay among those proposed by CREAF researchers.

Calendar

  • Deadline to submit your application: 12th June, 2022.
  • Resolution date: the resolution date by CREAF is 17th June, 2022. So, before the deadline to pay the pre-registration fee for the master's degree, which is 20th June 2022.
  • Summer Fellowship Programme development: summer 2023.
  • Evaluation of the programme: September 2023.

How can I apply?

  • Applicants must attach their curriculum vitae, their academic grades and a motivation letter (maximum 500 words) in PDF format filling out this form before 12th June, 2022. 
  • You can submit the documents in Catalan, Spanish or English.  
  • The reception of all applications will be notified by an automatic reply from the same application form. 
  • The awarding of the scholarship will be resolved before the deadline for the preregistration in the Master Thesis Program but the payment will be done at the beginning of the stay (during summer 2023).

How does the selection process will be done?

The composition of the gender-balanced selection committee will be transparent and made public on CREAF Summer Fellowships webpage. 

Candidates will be evaluated according to the following criteria and weights: 

  • Academic record: 50%  
  • Curriculum vitae (research experience, participation in volunteering and associations, related courses and training, participation in scientific dissemination activities and level of English): 40%  
  • Motivation letter (maximum 500 words): 10%

How does the resolution will be communicated?

All applicants (awarded and not) will receive an email communicating the results. A list of the selected candidates will be also published here, please download it clicking on the button below.
