Resilient Forests: network of forest management demonstration plots for climate adaptation
The Resilient Forests project aims to assess and demonstrate how different adaptive forest management strategies can enhance the resilience and resistance of Mediterranean forests to climate change, particularly in relation to drought, wildfires and biodiversity loss.
Through the consolidation and expansion of a network of demonstration plots across Catalonia, the project integrates existing data from CREAF and the Centre de la Propietat Forestal, implements new field surveys and long-term functional and microclimatic monitoring, and defines standardized indicators to assess structural, functional and biodiversity-related changes.
Based on these data, management scenarios are modelled using functional models to predict medium- and long-term impacts on ecosystem services, such as carbon sequestration, water regulation and forest production, with the aim of generating transferable technical recommendations to inform sustainable forest management and climate change adaptation policies and practices in Catalonia.
