Dr. Xavier Pons Fernández is Professor of Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a leader in the field of geographic information science and technology. He leads the GRUMETS group at CREAF, dedicated to the application of innovative methods in remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS).

He is the creator of the MiraMon software, a pioneering tool widely used in research and territorial management. He also actively participates in international projects, such as the Climate Change Initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA), focusing on the study of land cover and global change.

He is also the editor of the scientific journal GeoFocus, which deals with topics related to GIS and remote sensing.
