Àlvaro Gallego Puerta
My name is Àlvaro Gallego Puerta and I am a microbiologist and environmental engineer with experience in R&D&I project management, fundraising, and European research programmes. I currently work in the pre-award unit at CREAF, where I support researchers in identifying funding opportunities, preparing proposals, coordinating with national and international funding agencies, and ensuring compliance with call requirements, budgets, and deadlines.
My background combines scientific training with strong administrative and management skills, developed through roles at institutions such as IDAEA–CSIC and the Eurecat Foundation, where I worked on European, European–LATAM, national, and local funded projects. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, and I have specialized training in Horizon Europe project management and R&D management.
I am particularly interested in collaborative research, sustainability, and innovation management, and I enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams, adapting to new challenges, and supporting high-quality research from idea to submission. Outside of work, I am actively involved in LGTBIQ+ inclusive sports, including educational projects with youth in Uganda.
