Adrià Descals Ferrando
Researcher specialized in remote sensing, global ecology, fire ecology, and machine learning. He holds a M.Sc. in Forestry Engineering from the Universitat Politènica de València (UPV, 2014), a MSc in Remote Sensing from the Universitat de València (UV, 2016), and obtained a PhD in Terrestrial Ecology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, from which he received the CSIC 2023 award II Premio Tesis Doctoral Relevante.
His research focuses on the response of terrestrial ecosystems to climate change, using remotely sensed data and machine learning techniques. His work integrates satellite and geospatial data in cloud-based platforms to conduct large-scale analyses, such as land surface phenology, land cover classification, and impacts of fire regimes.
He has held research positions at the University of Cambridge (UK), the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (Italy), and the University of Antwerp (Belgium), where he was supported by a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship. He also received the prestigious Beca Leonardo from Fundación BBVA and served as a junior coordinator for the ALFAwetlands project (Horizon Europe).
