ClimateGov
Innovating environmental governance for adaptation to global change
The project is based on the observation that many participatory processes and governance spaces face difficulties in deploying adaptation measures. On the other hand, there is a significant volume of knowledge, tools and resources generated in previous projects that are often dispersed and poorly connected to the needs of the territories.
ClimaGov proposes to connect these two areas: putting existing knowledge at the service of real governance processes and, at the same time, generating new learning from its application. Within this framework, the project contributes to the consolidation of governance spaces for climate change adaptation, optimizing the efforts of public administration with contributions from science and promoting the active participation of local entities in the design and implementation of territorial management measures and approaches.
This approach is specified in five lines of work:
- Provide scientific and technical support to existing participatory processes and governance spaces, such as the Living Laboratories of the Life eCOadapt50 project, to address identified barriers, strengthen the adaptive capacity of the actors involved and promote territorial cooperation instruments, such as environmental agreements and contracts between different agents.
- Promote the development of a centralized system of indicators for monitoring participatory processes and gains in local adaptive capacity, which allows for improved knowledge about the contribution of governance spaces to climate change adaptation, as well as facilitating the assessment of local response capacity.
- Promote, in collaboration with Eurecat-Amposta and within the framework of the Climate Resilience Center, the launch of an incubator for adaptation projects in the Terres de l'Ebre territory, aimed at identifying, structuring and promoting initiatives that contribute to a long-term territorial adaptation strategy.
- Develop digital tools that connect existing but often fragmented resources, experiences and knowledge, facilitating their consultation, reuse and transfer between territories and actors.
- Generate benchmark results and applied knowledge that contribute to the improvement of public policies for adapting to climate change and the deployment of strategic frameworks such as the ESCACC.
Overall, ClimaGov seeks to strengthen the capacity of territories to adapt to climate change through the connection between actors, knowledge and resources, promoting more collaborative and action-oriented forms of governance that contribute to consolidating long-term adaptation processes and strengthening the autonomy of territories.
