Maria Lumbierres
I am a researcher with interest in conservation biology, global change, remote sensing, and biodiversity monitoring. Building on an interdisciplinary education in environmental science, I have gained experience in time-series analysis, habitat suitability modeling, big data, spatial modeling, and biodiversity monitoringwhile actively engaging in the science-policy interface.
I earned my PhD at Sapienza University of Rome, where I developed data-driven models to map habitats and create Area of Habitat models for terrestrial mammals and birds. Additionally, I identified Key Biodiversity Areas on a global scale using systematic conservation planning tools.
Following my PhD, I joined the University of Amsterdam as a postdoctoral researcher, where I focused on designing workflows to implement Essential Biodiversity Variables for monitoring biodiversity across marine, terrestrial, and freshwater ecosystems.
I join CREAF as a Juan de la Cierva fellow in the ECOLAND research group. Here, I will collaborate on the RESFIRE project, where I will apply systematic conservation planning to establish optimal landscape mosaics and explore the strategic use of fire in landscape management.
