Postdoctoral researcher

Arnau Tolrà Montero

Researcher specialized in biodiversity, natural disturbances, and conservation, with experience in ecological modelling, environmental planning, and the development of decision-support tools.

PhD in Ecology from the University of Barcelona. My professional career has revolved around two central questions: how natural dynamics and human activities shape biodiversity patterns, and how this knowledge can be translated into more effective decisions for nature conservation.

I have worked across different areas of ecology, from fieldwork to ecological modelling, planning, and the development of decision-support tools. This trajectory has allowed me to combine a strong scientific foundation with an applied perspective, working at the interface between knowledge generation and its uptake in environmental policy. My current interests are strongly aligned with the promotion of ecosystem-based and rewilding approaches, through a better understanding of disturbances and natural processes.

I am joining CREAF in the framework of the RESFIRE project and the Technical Office of the Observatory of Natural Heritage, where I will work to deepen our understanding of the interrelationships between natural disturbances — especially fire and herbivory — and biodiversity, as well as their application to land-use planning and territorial management.
