CREAF is a public center for research in terrestrial ecology, global change and the analysis of the territory, that pursues excellence in knowledge generation and transfer, methodology development, innovation, training and dissemination. TWO (2) POSTDOCTORAL/TECHNICIANS FOR THE EUROPABON AND BIOAGORA PROJECTS

CREAF is seeking for two multi-disciplinary hearted postdoctoral/technicians with strong experience in biodiversity monitoring to work, together with other European institutions and the EU Commission, on building the European future biodiversity monitoring hub. The two new positions are for one to two years (with the possibility of an extension) in the context of the new EuropaBON project (Europa Biodiversity Observation Network: integrating data streams to support policy), with ref. 101003553 and BIOAGORA project (Biodiversity Knowledge Agora: Developing the Science Service for European Research and Biodiversity Policymaking) with ref. 38787 both of them financed by European Commission. A full-time contract is offered, with a planned incorporation in August-September 2022 with an initial duration of 12 month, with possibility of extending it if the budget allows it. The salary offered is between 38.043,80 and 33.067,55 € gross per year, depending on the candidate’s conditions. EuropaBON has as mission to overcome existing data gaps and workflow bottlenecks by designing an EU-wide framework for monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem services. The project aims to engage users at the regional, national and European level to identify the data needs of policies and targets, aligned with the new European Green Deal. BIOAGORA project is to address the need for a Science Service that supports decision-makers and other users with knowledge. The project aims at providing the biodiversity research community with interconnected and interconnected platform to transform available knowledge into operational decision support. BIOAGORA will develop a functional Science Service, understood as a combination of a technical platforms, a set of channels and tools, and networks bundling transdisciplinary science with policy and society in a context-sensitive way. The created solution aim at supporting the work with the European Commission (EC) and other relevant users. Together with ICO (Catalan Ornithological Institute) and EBCC (European Bird Census Council), CREAF is leading on an assessment of existing monitoring capability in Europe, in which the project will evaluate existing biodiversity data, and describe the major workflows used to generate and use these data in policy and research environments. EuropaBon then will assess the current biodiversity observation capacity across Europe by identifying weaknesses, biases and good practices and successes.

AUXILIAR DE CAMP PEL SEGUIMENT DE L'HÀBITAT I PROSPECCIONS DE PEIXOS EN RIEROLS MEDITERRANIS PER AL PROJECTE FISHINDROUGHT

CREAF is seeking a field assistant for the FISHINDROUGHT project (Under the surface: uncovering the role of individual differences in how fish populations cope with severe droughts) with grant number EC-92592R-22 and financed by the National Geographic Society. Dr. Jolles, Severo Ochoa researcher at CREAF, and our research is aimed to better understand and predict how freshwater fish cope with droughts, an issue that has become very pressing due to the increasing effects of human-induced global change. In our work we combine behavioural experiments with field surveys and environmental monitoring to uncover in detail how drought affects the movements and distribution of freshwater fish, how that is linked to phenotypic variation, and what consequences this has for population persistence. Our research is focused on the Mediterranean streams and rivers of north-east Catalunya and the fish that inhabit them, in particular Mediterranean Barbel, Three-spined Stickleback, and Eastern Mosquitofish. A full-time contract is offered, with a planned incorporation in June 2022 for a duration of 4 months. The salary offered is 1.410,73€ gross per month. The period can be extended to a 6-month contract at reduced hours if needed (with proportional salary). Local knowledge and experience with field work in the area, especially freshwaters, is a bonus.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER ON ALFAwetlands PROJECT

CREAF is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher to work on the ALFAwetlands project (Wetland restoration for the future), funded under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (HORIZON-CL5-2021-D1-01-08, 101056844) and financed by European Commission. The postdoc researcher will be in charge of monitoring soil carbon and nutrient contents and greenhouse gas exchanges in the wetlands of Catalonia as well as ecological and ecophysiological traits of the vegetation around the wetlands, with the aim of enhancing the knowledge base on European wetland degradation and restoration status beyond the state-of-the-art and developing comprehensive and sound maps of wetlands’ extent, location, condition, type of management, and pressures. This will be achieved by locating, assessing, and harmonising available information from a wide range of sources including field monitoring, gathering previously available information and using remote sensing techniques for which the measures taken by the post doc will be used as ground truth data. A full-time contract is offered, with a planned incorporation in June 2022 with an initial duration of 12 month, with possibility of extending it if the budget allows it. The salary offered is 30.471,75 € gross per year.

PROJECT FINANCIAL MANAGER FOR THE LIFE MIDMACC PROJECT

The CREAF Project Management Office is seeking for a technician, specialized in project management (both administrative and financial), to join the LIFE MIDMACC project (“Midmountain adaptation to climate change”), ref. CCA/ES/001099, funded by the European Commission. The contract will be full-time (37,5 hours per week), and is expected to start as soon as the selection process will finish. The contract is expected to last until the end of the project, 30/06/2024, with continuity possibilities due to the exponential growth of the center. The salary will be between 26,817.82 and 29,611.34 € gross per year, according to knowledge and experience provided. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER ON RESONATE PROJECT

CREAF is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher to work on the RESONATE project (Resilient forest value chains – enhancing resilience through natural and socio-economic responses https://resonateforest.org ), funded under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (LC-RUR-11-2019-2020). The postdoc researcher will contribute to build an operational framework for forest resilience based on assessing different metrics and indicators informing on ecosystem services and forest value chains resilience. This research will be under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme aiming to study how resilience of Europe’s forests and forest value chains can be improved in a context of climate change, with the goal of guiding decision-making. For this purpose, forest resilience and vulnerability will be assessed as a function of past and current site factors and management in different forest types and management systems across Europe.
