BCN Reconnecta
Regional Projects
Project duration:
Nov 2022 to Oct 2023

To raise awareness among students and citizens of the effects of climate change in the city of Barcelona and to promote phenological observation as a tool for reconnecting the population with nature. To prepare a comprehensive map of the evolution of phenology in Barcelona to study the effect of the climate on it.

Barcelona Reconnecta seeks to bring citizens, and especially students, closer to nature through phenological observation and citizen science. A series of workshops will be held that will introduce the theoretical concepts and the specific methodology of phenological observation carried out in the RitmeNatura citizen observatory and in the FenoCat network of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia. As has been shown in previous projects of these organizations, phenology is a key science in the study of the consequences of the climate emergency that we are experiencing and can be used to make these consequences known to the public and for them to provide data to study them. The observations made from the workshops will be reflected in a browser created specifically for the project, which will offer an integrated view of the daily phenological state in Barcelona.
As a complement to the program of educational workshops, a Service-Learning (APS) program will be offered, to optionally be developed by the schools, in which students can participate in the creation and design of an interactive map of the evolution of phenology in Barcelona based on observations made in their own center or neighborhood and through storymap co-creation tools.
