(2) TWO POSTDOCTORAL/TECHNICIANS FOR THE EUROPABON AND BIOAGORA PROJECTS

CREAF is seeking for two multi-disciplinary hearted postdoctoral/technicians with strong experience in the science policy interface to work, together with other European institutions and the EU Commission, on building the European future biodiversity monitoring hub. The two new positions are for one to two years (with the possibility of an extension) in the context of the new EuropaBON project (Europa Biodiversity Observation Network: integrating data streams to support policy), with ref. 101003553 and BIOAGORA project (Biodiversity Knowledge Agora: Developing the Science Service for European Research and Biodiversity Policymaking) with ref. 101059438 both of them financed by European Commission.

A full-time contract is offered, with a planned incorporation in January 2023 with an initial duration of 12 month, with possibility of extending it if the budget allows it. The salary offered is between 36.073,17 and 33.210,22 € gross per year, depending on the candidate’s conditions.

EuropaBON project has as mission to overcome existing data gaps and workflow bottlenecks by designing an EU-wide framework for monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem services. The project aims to engage users at the regional, national and European level to identify the data needs of policies and targets, aligned with the new European Green Deal.

BIOAGORA project is to address the need for a Science Service that supports decision-makers and other users with knowledge. The project aims at providing the biodiversity research community with interconnected and interconnected platform to transform available knowledge into operational decision support. BIOAGORA will develop a functional Science Service, understood as a combination of a technical platforms, a set of channels and tools, and networks bundling transdisciplinary science with policy and society in a context-sensitive way. The created solution aim at supporting the work with the European Commission (EC) and other relevant users.

Together with ICO (Catalan Ornithological Institute) and EBCC (European Bird Census Council), CREAF is leading on an assessment of existing monitoring capability in Europe, in which the project will evaluate existing biodiversity data, and describe the major workflows used to generate and use these data in policy and research environments.

TASKS:

- Coordinate the activities of the CREAF team in the EuropaBON and BIOAGORA projects.
- Mapping of current biodiversity monitoring efforts in Europe and how they may feed the European Biodiversity Strategy 2030.
- Generate and maintain a database of current knowledge-based efforts feeding into the EU Biodiversity strategy 2030 (Monitoring, assessments, scenario developments) and collaborate with other researchers as required.
- High quality scientific outputs in the form of journal publications and contribution to relevant policy reports.
- Networking with other national and international groups in Biodiversity monitoring and Biodiversity indicator and scenario developments.

REQUIREMENTS:

- A completed PhD on a topic related to the current project description (biodiversity monitoring, scenario development, Biodiversity policy support tools).
- Excellent publication record.
- Expertise in biodiversity monitoring projects and biodiversity research.
- Strong background and proven previous experience in linking biodiversity monitoring, Biodiversity indicator or scenario development with decision making and conservation planning.
- Contrasted capacity to lead work and team up with other researchers.
- Previous experience in project management and leadership in a biodiversity conservation context.
- Advanced knowledge of English.

ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS:

- Experience in working alongside and/or coordinating working groups, preferably in an international environment.
- Experience in database design and web-based data management.
- Experience in the reporting of biodiversity relevant European legislation and Nature directives.
- Experience in team coordination and management in an academic/professional environment.
- Experience in developing successful proposals for competitive project applications.
- Experience in running biodiversity monitoring programs.
