DATABASE TECHNICIAN FOR THE BOSSA-ICTA PROJECT

CREAF needs to incorporate a technical profile for a research project in Health and the Natural Environment, on the effect that forests have on human health and its key role in mitigating climate change. The project is funded by "La Caixa" Bank Foundation. The contract will begin predictably in September 2018, and will end when the tasks linked to the project are finished.

TASKS

  1. Update and manage a SQL database on nutrients of soils, plants and animals, and both climate and global change.
  2. Set up a GIS with global environmental data.
  3. Prepare easily accessible datasets for the researchers.
  4. Management of the servers infrastructure and help to speed up computer intensive analyses.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Degree on fields related to the required tasks.
  2. Master in Ecology.
  3. Previous experience in drought, climate change, terrestrial organisms and communities, and climatic atlas databases and GIS.
  4. Demonstrable knowledge in programming.
  5. Previous experience in management of Linux servers
  6. Responsibility and initiative.

ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS

  1. Programming in R and development of R packages.
  2. Experience in High Performance Computing and use of computer clusters.
  3. Written and spoken English.

SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA

The selection process is led by the research project team, and will be overseen by the Management Office and the Human Resources Area of CREAF. This process consist of:

  1. Admission of candidates: applicants must submit a résumé, a cover letter (maximum 500 words) and the questionnaire attached to the offer, by e-mail to laboral@creaf.uab.cat, until July 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., indicating the reference code of the offer.   2. Preselection: determination of compliance with the minimum requirements of the offer.
  3. Selection: assessment of the preselected candidates by scoring based on objective criteria.
  4. Final decision: in case of finding the right person, the election will be formally communicated to him/her, and the identification of the chosen person will be published on CREAF job openings section.
