Introduction

We will investigate how belowground carbon allocation is affected by soil fertility. For model predictions, a theoretical approach based on a functional balance between aboveground resources (light, CO2) and belowground resources (nutrients, water) is followed.

Observational data from manipulation experiments and from ecosystem inventory databases guide model development. This serves to better understand whether nutrients will increasingly limit the land carbon sink under continuously rising CO2.
