At CREAF we study the effects of increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations, climate change, or increases in contamination and we design measures to adapt ecosystems to a drier future.

Chemical ecology, ecotoxicology and metabolomicsThe activity of living beings modifies the structure and chemical composition of their surroundings. In some cases, organisms act as filters of toxicity of some substances, and their study allows us to evaluate the capacity of the ecosystem for absorbing contaminants which we create with multiple human activities.
A significant part of research along these lines centers on two objectives: evaluating ecosystem health based on concentrations of metabolites emitted by organisms (in the same sense as the doctor who carries out diagnostics based on our bodies’ metabolites), and finding applications and use for the recycling of organic residues.
