Forest databases

CREAF has a long tradition of creating, managing, and analyzing large forest databases, built from the different inventories which have been carried out over the years. The analysis of these data is fundamental for understanding the state and evolution of our forests, and for planning responsible and sustainable forest management.

Using geographic information systems (GIS), these forest databases can be crossed with many types of data (climatic, environmental, geographic, etc.). This allows the detailed study of crucial aspects such as the capacity of our forests to respond to environmental changes or the quantity of wood which can be removed annually without compromising the functioning of the forest as an ecosystem.
