SEMINAR: Managing risks from natural hazards incorporating nature-based solutions

Miércoles, Octubre 4, 2017 15 h

Seminar by Bjørn Kalsnes, Natural Hazards Division, Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).

Bjørn Kalsnes is a geotechnical engineer, whose work is a combination of consultant projects dealing with risk assessment of natural hazards, and expert guidance projects in developing countries. Kalsnes is a member of the leader group of KLIMA 2050, a Norwegian Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) aimed at reducing the societal risks associated with climate changes in the built environment. He coordinated the EU-FP7 research project SafeLand "Living with landslide risk in Europe: Assessment, effects of global change, and risk management strategies". He is currently coordinating the Stage 2 proposal PHUSICOS (EU-H2020) where CREAF is involved as partner.

In his talk, Kalsnes will present some challenges related to risk management of natural hazards, with a key focus on the use of nature-based solutions. The topic is of great interest for experts in ecological restoration, land use planning, and citizen scientists.
