Ecotechnology for the environmental restoration of calcareous quarries

The purpose is to enhance the quality of restoration works on open-cast mining activities by incorporating up-to-date ecological criteria in restoration procedures and implementing a quality control system that has been agreed with the sector.

Introduction

 Among its activities, the project has restored zones by using different means of preparing the soil, fertilizers, combinations of crops and plantations, and maintenance irrigation. CREAF participates in the evaluation of erosion in the restored zones.
 
This is a demonstration project funded by the LIFE – CCE programme and coordinated by the UB, involving the participation of another five research centres, the DMAH, professional associations such as «Ciment Català» and the «Gremi d'Àrids de Catalunya», as well as eleven companies within the sector.

Conclusions

Jornada Tècnica de presentació dels programes Life-ECOQUARRY (ecotecnologia medioambiental per a la restauració de pedreres calcàries), RESTOFANGS (utilització de fangs de depuradora com a esmena orgànica en la rehabilitació de sòls) i RESTOCAT (protocol per a l’avaluació de la restauració d’activitats extractives).
